Here's your homework for the next little while:
For tomorrow (Thursday):
Tomorrow, we will be examining a couple of your syntheses on Interest Groups, so you can get feedback to improve them and future ones. You will also have some class time to work on your Media chapter synthesis. For Monday:
Prior to the winter break (which was awesome) you all read, annotated, and outlined Patterson ch. 6-8 on political socialization, public opinion, political participation, and the electoral system.
Now you will read, annotate, and outline the corresponding chapters in Barron's, ch. 11-13. These sections overlap imperfectly, as they always do, so it's important to both reinforce what they explain in common as well as to take careful note of key differences that exist between the sources. You will upload your outlines to Google Drive, and then use then merge the two sets of outlines and write an extended multi-chapter synthesis of these topics in the form of a blog post. You need to make sure you define and explain (using facts and examples) ALL key terms from BOTH sources. It must be written in integrated, flowing prose, and NOT as a list of facts. Approach it as though you are writing a third text based on the first two sources. Finally, you must also include images that aid the viewer's understanding of the core concepts. This task is due on Monday before the beginning of class. We will co-critique one of the syntheses at that time, so you can get feedback with which to make improvements, if necessary. Your task is to critically compare and contrast the Occupy Wall Street movement and the Tea Party movement
–Origins –Supporters –Goals –Tactics –Successes and failures Explain all of the above and answer the Essential Question:
You must consult at least three credible sources in addition to the textbook and cite them in-text. You must include images and/or video. This post is due before class on Monday. Hey guys, here's your homework for the next week or so:
For Monday, Nov. 24: Read, annotate, and outline Ch. 6 on Political Socialization For Wednesday, Nov. 26: Study for your Civil Rights Unit Test For Monday, Dec 1: Read, annotate, and outline Ch. 7 on Political Participation As the chapters do not overlap well, you will not have to outline Barron's and write syntheses with the text chapters for a while. However, it might help to review the sections that do overlap with what we examining in class and reading in the text. Hey guys,
Your homework for over Monday (whether you're going to the Singapore MUN or not) is to:
Hey guys, your Civil Rights project challenges you to research a marginalized social group’s historical and current status in regard to civil rights protections, answering…
Requirements
The rubric was emailed to you and is attached below. Pay very careful attention to the success criteria when preparing. You will all present on Monday, November 10.
Good work thinking through how to link concepts related to civil liberties. This was our first iteration. We will be tackling this again using more concepts in the near future, as you guys definitely demonstrated strong critical thinking but also because so much of the AP exam concerns rights and liberties. Here are a couple pics I took:
As we all know, most PAS students choose to attend universities in the United States. While Taiwan and the US are both democracies, the scope and limitations of one's civil liberties differ in important ways. As aspiring residents (and citizens), it is very important that PAS students know what their rights will be, what they can say, think, and do--and not--within the scope of the law.
Your task will be to teach PAS students about their civil liberties. You get to choose the format. The only specific requirement is that it be something students can realistically refer to when in the US. This means no presentations, large posters, or essays. You might choose to make a pamphlet, digital book, video, or something else along those lines. Requirements: 1) You must explain ALL of the rights and their limitations contained in Text ch. 4 and Barron’s Ch. 5, focusing on:
3) It must include visuals, where appropriate Rough Draft notes and design plan: Due Thurs. Oct 16 Final Project: Due Thurs. Oct 23 |
